KA YO x CHIMI: NATURAL MOVEMENT

When Chimi approached us a while ago with the latest addition to their wide stable of shade styles, the SILVANER, and asked us to do a collab, we were intrigued. Although being rather sporty style to the core, made for movement, the purpose of SILVANER is to be worn as much for going down to the local shop buying some tangy orange juice for your sunny Sunday brunch on the balcony as they are to be worn on your Tuesday evening 5k run in the neighborhood. A no-nonsense pair of sunglasses made for whatever movement that feels natural for you, at any given moment.

As the natural wine heads we are at KA YO HQ, we immediately saw a connection between the relaxed and straight forward vibe of these shades with the relaxed and straight forward natural wines we love and devour. Natural wine, natural movement. Easy. So we packed a bunch of KA YO®CHIMI SILVANER, called our friend and international wine whizz, the legendary and delightfully elusive French natural winemaker, restaurateur and musician Clovis Ochin, and headed to the alluring French wine region of Alsace.

There, guided by Clovis, with the lush green-clad Vosges Mountains to our west and the glimmering Rhine river to the east, we met up with a group of wine-making renegades. The natural winemakers of Alsace, together with all other natural winemakers of France, have broken free from the heavy and crippling bureaucracy of the conventional French wine industry. Instead the focus is to go back to the roots of wine making and create wines free from additives, with processes of fermentation being completely natural and un-touched, and with minimum negative impact on the land. The result is wines that are as free and living as their makers, and full of naturally occurring microbiology. With this spirit in mind, and the sun in our face and good help from local winemakers, we sourced and crafted our own wine made from 100% Silvaner grape.

Just like all wines aren’t made to cater for the needs of the wine elite, not all sporting goods are made to break world records with. Some are just made to be enjoyed whenever you feel like it, naturally.
